Whatever happened to Aqua? (And other top 90’s bands..)

Music and Fashion have always been the two most distinctive factors that identified each era. Growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s there are several bands, singers and songs that shaped and formed our memories. We once looked up to them, dressed like them, wished badly we would meet them and listened to their “Tapes” over and over again.

But the sad part is, just like our childhood and teenage years, these bands soon passed and were forgotten. What remains are the sweet memories that rushes through our minds once we hear their songs or see an old picture. #nostalgia

Since I have been feeling deeply nostalgic lately, I have decided to look up 5 of our most favorite bands back in the days and see where are they now.

Aqua

Best known for their all-time hit “Barbie-Girl” in 1997, the Danish-Norwegian Eurodance group were a HUGE success in late 90’s and early 2000’s. They released only 3 albums in total but emerged globally so fast and unfortunately just as they quickly rose they disappeared even quicker.

Where are they now?
To my surprise, I found out that they have released a new album as recent as 2011 called: Megalomania with a humble 15,000 albums sold in Denmark. The band seemingly also had a successful Tour in Australia during 2012 but there have been no news following this.

Evanescence

Who didn’t tear up listening to Amy Lee’s phenomenal voice in My Immortale? This American rock band that was formed back 1995 but achieved their global break through with the release of their first album Fallen in 2003. They managed to win various awards for it and why not? The songs: Bring Me To Life, Going Under and Everybody’s Fool still lingers strongly in our minds.

Where are they now?
Through Wikipedia I got to learn that their most recent album was released in 2011 under the name of Evanescence. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 127,000 copies in sales. The album also debuted at No. 1 on four other different Billboard charts; the Rock Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and the Hard Rock Albums charts. The band spent 2012 on tour in promotion of their new album with other bands including The Pretty Reckless and Fair to Midland. Interesting…

Boy Zone

Remember the crush you had on Ronan Keating and Cosmopolitan’s endless shirtless pictures of him that you used to share with your best girls? (Admit it!). The Irish boy band has released smashing hits like “Words” and “Love me for a reason” and “father & Son” just to name a few.

Where are they now?
Sadly, the 5-boys -band is now a 4-boy-band following the tragic & sudden death of their member Gately in 2010 Mid-tour from an undiagnosed heart disease. However, the four surviving band members are still actively touring and releasing albums with their latest release in 2014 under the name of “From Dublin to Detroit”.

The Cranberries

“Its in YOUR HEAAAAAD, in your HEAAAADDD, Zombie, Zombie, Zombie hey hey hey”. Believe it or not, that was my favorite study-song. I would put it on repeat and would keep singing along and banging my head and then studying during the low vocals and music parts. (But I passed!).

Another Irish band which was one of the most successful rock acts of the '90s and sold over 40 million albums worldwide. So what happened to them?

Where are they now?
In early 2010, after a six-year hiatus, The Cranberries reunited and began a North American tour, followed by shows in Latin America and Europe. The band recorded their sixth album, Roses, in May 2011, and released it on 27 February 2012. Good to know they are still around!

All-saints

“Voulez-vous couchez avec moi ce soir?” Who never danced to this song and pretended that you are in a Moulin Rouge-worth stage?

All-girl-bands were also big back in the days, with Spice Girls leading the Phenomena. The All-Saints English-canadian band started their career back in 1995 and quickly became one of the most successful pop groups of the 90’s with their hits “Never Ever” and Lady Marmalad”.

Where are they now?
They quickly drew back from stardom with their 2006 release Studio Album. Soon after, the group has split and reunited twice, with a recent er-union for a few live tours in 2014.
